Travel Documents & Visa Requirements

Note:For purchase of Drukair tickets, one do not need a visa however, for travel into Bhutan, visa is required as per following information given below and unavailability of required documents may lead to denied check-in at the airport.

  1. Valid passport (6 months minimum)/ Valid voter ID for Indian nationals.
  2. The requirement of entry clearance depends on the category. Currently it is as follows:
    • A. Foreign workers (Fresh):
    • i. Nationals of India, Bangladesh and Maldives

      - Approval from Department of Labour.

    • ii. Other nationals excluding above:

      - Valid e-visa clearance from Department of Immigration. Visit for further details

    • B. Other Categories (Tourist):
    • I. Visa on arrival for tourism purpose
      1. a. Nationals of Bangladesh and Maldives
      2. b. Diplomat and Official passport holder of Thai and Swiss nationals.
      3. c. Applicable SDF charged on arrival
    • II. Nationals of India are eligible for Entry Permit at the port of entry (SDF application on arrival)
    • III. All other nationals must obtain an e-visa prior to their entry into Bhutan.
    • C. Cardholders (Marriage case/Employment permit):

      - Their permits need to be valid and for those requiring visa, their visa should be valid and also they should have valid entry endorsements (single, double, triple and multiple as may be applicable)

      - Special resident permit: The holder do not require visa or permit to visit Bhutan. However, he or she is required to carry his or her national passport along with this card. Immigration in paro will facilitate his or her entry based on the passport

    • D. Business/Officials Purpose

      - All nationals visiting on purpose of business/officials should have prior entry approvals from DOI and applicable SDT may be levied on arrival.

  3. Foreign workers point of entry should be as per the designated point of entry reflected in their labour approval.
